Exploring the Georgian Seaport of Batumi

Exploring Batumi, Georgia: An Adventure Experience

Nestled along the dazzling shores of the Black Sea, Batumi, Georgia, is a vibrant city that depicts classical beauty with modern flair. With its stunning architecture, lush landscapes, and rich cultural heritage, Batumi offers an unforgettable travel experience. Not long ago, I had the pleasure of exploring this coastal gem.

First Sight and Impressions

As I stepped off the train, the warm Georgian sun greeted me. I had a first glimpsed of Batumi at the Batumi train station, a not-so modern facility, located right on the coast of Black Sea. The lively atmosphere was palpable, with the sounds of street vendors and the distant waves crashing on the shore setting the scene for an adventurous getaway.

The first view that captured my attention was the Batumi Boulevard, an enchanting promenade lined with palm trees, exotic sculptures, and elegant cafés. Walking along the waterfront, I was greeted by the intricate design of the Alphabetic Tower, celebrating the unique Georgian script. This 130-meter tall structure stands as a testament to the significance of language and culture in this beautiful region.

Exploration Begins

My first day was to immerse myself into the Georgian culture. I visited the Batumi Archaeological Museum, which showcases the history of the area, including artifacts from the ancient Greek and Roman periods. The museum tells the story of the city and each exhibit I saw illuminated the fascinating history of Georgia — a narrative that is deeply intertwined with the city of Batumi.

The culinary escapade in Batumi is one I will cherish forever. I experienced authentic Georgian cusine at local Georgian restaurant located right off the coast of Black Sea. The local salad taste perfectly amazing coupled with Georgian grilled-chicken. I savored every taste of it, while enjoying the scenic view of the Batumi port.

Embracing Nature

The next day, I stepped away from the urban landscape and ventured into nature. The Black Sea, I can say is the real gem of the city port of Batumi. It is a paradise to many traveler especially those who are more to adventures like paragliding and mountain hiking. I wandered around the Batumi' coast line completing my wish to stroll and have fun around the Boulevard. The breathtaking views of the coastline from various viewpoints along the trails were moments I’ll truly cherish.

Up for more adventure, I grabbed a cab to the surrounding mountains. En route to the Makhuntseti Waterfall, a stunning natural wonder located about 30 kilometers from the city. The journey was filled with beautiful landscapes, and upon arrival, the sight of the waterfall cascading down the rocky cliffs was mesmerizing. I took a moment to bask in the cool mist of the water while enjoying the serenity of the surrounding forest.

Farewell & Thoughts

My trip to Batumi was both a journey through time and an adventure into the heart of nature. The city’s blend of history, culture, and stunning landscapes made for an enriching experience that I will treasure. From the warm-hearted locals to the tantalizing food, every moment spent in Batumi unveiled the city’s charm.

As I boarded my train back to Tbilisi, I felt a mix of gratitude and longing. Batumi, with its captivating beauty and vibrant energy, has left an indelible mark on my travel journey. I left with a promise to return — after all, in a city where the mountains meet the sea, the adventure never truly ends.

Unfortunately, it didn't happen until I reached my adulthood. Like others who are not financially-stable, traveling that time was limited only for those who has extra-budget left on their bank accounts to spend. It was only when I started working abroad, I was able to save money and has a means to travel (internationally) on a leisure trip. In 2022, post-pandemic, the  travel tourism then starting to pick-up from the devastation caused by Covid virus. It was holiday then, where all Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). Without hesitation, I immediately grabbed my lugagge and fly to Georgia.  It is a transcontinental country located between the continents of  Asia and Europe (Caucasus region). Fortunately for us who has a GCC residency, visa is not a requi...
